I hear so often that people are afraid to buy clothes online because you can't try it on. I get it. Honestly sometimes buying clothes online is such a hassle. Especially if the item doesn't work out and you need to return it. But buying and returning on Amazon is so easy! Here are some tips for purchasing on Amazon!
READ REVIEWS
This may be my #1 tip for buying clothes on Amazon! Reviews can be so helpful. Look for reviewers that have similar height/weight to you. Or a similar figure. If you are looking for feedback on fit and you have a curvy figure then the feedback from a reviewer with an athletic figure might not be super helpful.
Look for repetitive comments. If you are looking for a soft, cozy sweater and numerous reviews mention the fabric is rough and scratchy this may not be the best item for you.
Look for reviews that mention fit. If a majority of reviewers state the item runs large or to size down it's a safe bet that the item runs large so you may want to order a size down. This is especially important if you are in between sizes. I am in between a small and medium. If an item runs large I tend to size down to the small.
READ PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS
This is where you will find details on what the item is made out of. You will also find details on how to launder in this section as well. (Sizing charts are often found here as well but I tend to rely on product reviews more than the sizing charts).
CHECK THE SHIPPING AND RETURN POLICIES
Typically, most items offer 2 or 3 day and free returns. But not all. But always confirm so you aren't disappointed.
Something important to note about returns is many products come with a package free return option. This makes returns so simple! Just process the return through your Amazon account and be provided a QR code. Bring the item to a local drop off site, I tend to use UPS stores or Kohls, show the associate the QR code, hand over the item then the associate will hand you a receipt. It's so easy! A bonus of returning at Kohls is you also get a coupon to use on a Kohls purchase!
LOOK AT AMAZON'S SIZE RECOMMENDATION
This is a really cool feature. Once you have made some purchases Amazon uses some magic and will start making size recommendations based on your purchase history, purchase history of other customers and reviews. Generally, the suggested size is correct. There have actually been a few times that I don't go with the suggested size and end up having to exchange the item.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO SEND SOMETHING BACK
This might be a tie for my #1 tip. I cannot stress this enough! If you love the shirt but it's just too big then send it back for a smaller size. If the size is ok but you just aren't sure about the item overall send it back for a refund or credit. This is what makes the ease of returns so great - no more being stuck with something you don't love because it can't be returned.
Another tip about sizing - if you aren't sure if you should get the small or medium then get both. Keep the one that fits best and return the other. If you only order the small and you just aren't sure if you would be better off with the medium then order the medium. You can return whichever size doesn't fit. Or maybe you decide neither fits? You can return them both.
