Self Tanners

This post contains Affilate links. Mom in Style may make a small commisssion on you purchase through one of these links.

No matter how much time I spend in the sun ☀️ my legs don’t get tan 🤷‍♀️. So last summer I started experimenting with self tanner. There were some winners and losers. And there were A LOT of learnings!

☀️ I hadn't used self tanner in years! So much has changed! Formulas today are so much better. They smell better and apply better. Most aren't orange. And foam is a game changer! It goes on so smoothly and evenly!

A couple of my favorites:

👍Bondi Sands Tanning Mousse: https://urlgeni.us/qvc/ZaKlV

👍Jergens Natural Glow Instant Sun Sunless Tanning Mousse, Light Bronze Tan, Sunless Tanner Mousse: https://urlgeni.us/target/T29Zk

My least favorite so far:

👎b.tan get tanned af. This one has great reviews online but it was a no go for me. There was a lot of product transfer the first night. And the self tanner smell was soooo strong 👃. https://urlgeni.us/amzn/HIujQ

Next on my list to try:

⭐️St. Tropez! One of the brands I wanted to try but couldn’t justify the price was St Tropez! QVC is currently having a special on self tanners and St Tropez. I just ordered a kit that contains 2 bottles of tanning mousse and 2 mitts for the price of just 1 bottle on other sites! Can’t wait to give it a try! More info: https://urlgeni.us/qvc/ivWNI

☀️A key to good application is good skin prep! You absolutely must properly exfoliate before application. This in shower exfoliating mitt is awesome: https://urlgeni.us/amzn/YEG8Z. And shave before applying as well! Tip: as your final skin prep step apply a little bit of coconut oil to areas that are dry and/or absorb more like ankles, knees and elbows.

☀️An application mitt and brush are a must! Tools are another game changer. The mitt allows the product to go on super evenly and smoothly. No streaking at all. And a brush is perfect for evenly applying on the tops of your hands and tops of your feet! If you don't have someone to help with your back definitely get a back applicator. It's not a perfect replacement for 2 extra hands but it helps!

☀️I find right before bed is the best time to apply. I shower, shave and exfoliate then apply. Ideally, I would sleep in pj pants pants because there will be a little transfer. But I absolutely can't sleep in pants! So I will wear pants until I am totally dry. I do get a bit of transfer on my sheets but it comes out in the wash.

☀️The next morning shower as normal! Don't exfoliate though. This will cause some of the tan to slough off! I typically get about a week out of self tanner before needing to re-apply.
